MEN’S TENNIS FALLS AT HOME TO NEW MEXICO STATE, 5-2

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State's Marek Marksoo and Niranjan Ram were both victorious in singles play, but it was not enough in the Hornets' 5-2 loss to New Mexico State in non-conference men's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.

The loss dropped the Hornets to 4-10 while New Mexico State improved its record to 8-7.

In doubles play, the Hornet tandem of Roy Brandys and Ayman Abdulwahab won their match at No. 3, but the Aggies won matches at Nos. 1 and 2 to grab the doubles point.

Singles play saw Marksoo win his match at No. 1 over Strahinja Trecakov by a score of 7-5, 6-3, and Ram won his match at No. 3 over Paul Denele by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

However, the Aggies won matches at Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 6 to pull out the victory. The Hornets' Roy Brandys at No. 2 (5-7, 6-4, 6-1)  Tom Miller at No. 4 (3-6, 6-4, 7-6) and Joaquin Marquez at No. 5 (7-5, 1-6, 6-1) all lost their matches in three sets.

The Hornets, who are in the midst of a nine-match homestand, will play again tomorrow against Big Sky Conference foe Idaho State at 1:30 p.m. at the Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
