SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento State's Tom Miller and Oliver Andersen each posted singles victories, but it was not enough in the Hornets' 5-2 loss to Loyola Marymount in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at Rio Del Oro Racquet Club.
The match was the first of the season for Loyola Marymount (1-0) while the Hornets fell to 1-3. Sacramento State was playing the match without its No. 2 player, Sean Kolar, because of a knee injury.
In singles play, Miller's win at No. 4 came over the Lions' Othar Kordsachia (6-3, 6-3) while Andersen's victory came at No. 5 over Daniel Simko by a 6-5 (5), 2-6, 6-2 score. Those proved to be the only victories of the day for Sacramento State as Roy Brandys (No. 1), Marek Marksoo (No. 2), Niranjan Ram (No. 3) and Joaquin Marquez (No. 6) each lost. Marquez and Ram fell in three sets.
Loyola Marymount won the first two doubles matches of the day to earn the doubles point.
Today marked the home opener for Sacramento State, which began its season two weeks ago with three matches over a three-day span in Honolulu.
Today also began a four-match homestand for the Hornets that will see them return to action on Friday, Feb. 7, against UC Riverside at 1 p.m.
