MORAGA, Calif. -- Junior forward David Fraser recorded a goal in the 82nd minute to lead the Sacramento State men''s soccer team to a 1-1 tie with Saint Mary''s, in double-overtime, Friday afternoon at Garaventa Field. The Hornets are now 1-2-2 on the season while the Gaels'' record moves to 1-4-2.Saint Mary''s held the advantage early when Diego Rovira scored the contest''s first goal in the 38th minute. Rovira and teammate Alex Monslave capitalized on a two-on-one opportunity with Hornet goalkeeper Jeff Gibson. Sacramento State pushed the game into extra periods when Fraser connected on a header from junior midfielder Joel Rodriguez''s cross from the left side. For Fraser, a native of Danville, Calif., it was his first goal of the 2002 season.
Neither team could take advantage in the overtime periods as Sacramento State tallied only two shots during the extra frames.
Sacramento State will conclude the weekend at Hornet Soccer Field on Sunday, Sept. 22, at 3 p.m. against Dominican. The match is the second of a scheduled doubleheader with the Hornet women''s soccer team.
