MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS CAL POLY, 3-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Sophomore defender Brent Hamilton recorded two goals as the Sacramento State men''s soccer team rallied to defeat Cal Poly, 3-1, in a non-conference match Friday evening in Mustang Stadium. The game marked the first win of the 2002 season for the Hornets.

Cal Poly (0-2) recorded the first goal of the contest when Mark Jones scored on a penalty kick in the seventh minute. Sacramento State (1-1) answered back with an unassisted goal by senior midfielder Justin Ancheta in the 13th minute. Sophomore defender Brent Hamilton would scored the eventual game winner for the Hornets in the 17th minute off an assist by Ancheta. Hamilton then added an insurance goal for Sacramento State in the 84th minute when he fired a shot from behind the midline (60-yards) and the ball bounced over the head of Mustang goalkeeper Luis Trejo. For Ancheta and Hamilton, it was the first goal of their Hornet careers.

Junior goalkeeper Jeff Gibson earned his first victory as a Hornet with a season-high seven saves.

Sacramento State will next face UC Riverside on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 3 p.m. at UCR Soccer Field.
