LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
The Sacramento state men's soccer team defeated UNLV, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation matchup. In the process, the Hornets clinched a spot in the MPSF Tournament for the third consecutive season. This year's tournament will take place on Denver's home field Nov. 10-13.

Adam Bettencourt scored just 27 seconds into the game and his cousin, Chris Bettencourt, scored another goal in the 72nd minnute to lead the Hornets to their fourth conference victory of the season.

The Hornets (8-7-2, 4-4-1), who are in third place in the four-team MPSF Pacific Division with 13 poins, have just one regular season match remaining on the schedule, and that will come Saturday at home against San Jose State.

The MPSF Tournament features the two division winners and the next four best teams regardless of division. As it stands now, Sacramento State is currently the No. 5 seed, but could be the No. 3 seed by the end of the week. Should Air Force lose to Denver on Friday, and the Hornets beat San Jose State on Saturday, Sacramento State would assume the No. 3 seed. New Mexico has already clinched the No. 1 seed for the tournament, and Cal State Bakersfield would be the No. 2 seed with a tie or win against Seattle on Saturday.

In today's game against UNLV, the Hornets had a 6-3 edge in corners but the Rebels had a 14-10 advantage in shots.

Sacramento State keeper Bryan Oliver had three saves and recorded his third shutout of the season in his seventh start.
