SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Almog Strikowski and Chris Bettencourt each scored for the Hornets as the Sacramento State men's soccer team rallied from a one-goal deficit to defeat Denver, 2-1, on Friday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.

Sacramento State (7-6-1, 3-3 MPSF) even up its record in conference play and moved into a tied for second in the MPSF Pacific Division after San Jose State lost to Air Force on Friday. Denver (4-6-3, 2-2-1) fell into a tie with Air Force for second in the Mountain Division.

Less than three minutes into the game, Denver's leading scorer, Christian Volesky, scored his sixth goal of the season to give the Pioneers an early 1-0 lead.

Strikowski evened up the game with his second goal of the year in the 25th minute. He took a short pass from Max Alvarez on the left edge of the 18-yard box and fired a shot to the top far corner of the net.

Less than two minutes later, Bettencourt's fifth goal of the season put the Hornets up for good. With possession in their own half, Denver played a ball back to its keeper but it was misplayed and Bettencourt beat the defense to the loose ball in the box and tapped in an open net goal.

Sacramento State had a 15-11 edge in shots while Denver had a 3-2 advantage in corner kicks. Each team was whistled for 10 fouls but Denver was given four yellow cards, including one on the bench, while the Hornets received two.

The Hornets started Bryan Oliver in net and the junior responded with five saves and just one goal allowed. Denver used two keepers but Oliver Brown allowed both goals in the first half. Mate Aquirre was perfect with four saves in the second half.

Next up for the Hornets is Air Force at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Hornet Field.
