MEN'S SOCCER FALLS BEHIND EARLY, COMES BACK TO DEFEAT ALABAMA A&M

MORAGA, Calif. - After spotting Alabama A&M the first two goals of the game, the Sacramento State Hornets came back to score four goals, including three in the second half, to defeat the Bulldogs 4-2 in action at the Saint Mary's Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 6.

With the win, the Hornets improve to 2-0-1, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-2-0.

Alabama A&M opened the scoring in the eighth minute on their first shot of the contest, as Cesar Ramirez fed a through ball to the right foot of Abraham Kassaye, who went far post past Hornet senior 'keeper Ryan Kenny to take a 1-0 advantage.

Kassaye struck again in the 37th minute, scoring on a lead pass from Eric Kamya to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 advantage.

The Hornets struck in the 40th minute to pull back to within one as freshman David Norton scored on a blast from 25 yards out to the near post off of an Alabama A&M turnover.

The match changed in the 66th minute as Alabama A&M goalkeeper Paul Musoke was issued a red card after taking down freshman Max Alvarez in the box with a two-footed slide tackle. Alvarez converted on the penalty kick, tying the game at 2-2.

The Hornets took the lead in the 76th minute, as junior Ernesto Carranza sent a through ball to junior Fernando Cabadas. Cabadas connected on a cross to the foot of Alvarez, who terminated near post from 10 yards out to make the score 3-2 Sacramento State.

The lead increased to 4-2 in the 82nd minute, as sophomore Matthew Tellez found fellow sophomore Matt Foy, whose shot was saved by backup Bulldog 'keeper Daniel Obfinsua. The rebound came right to senior Scott Crandall, who slid the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

For the match, the Hornets outshot the Bulldogs 17-11, which included 14 shots on goal. Kenny finished the contest with five saves in 90 minutes of action in goal.

The Hornets finish the Saint Mary's Tournament undefeated at 2-0, tying for the tournament title with host Saint Mary's, who defeated UC Riverside 2-1 in overtime in the day's other action. Following the match, the all-tournament team was crowned with four Hornets earning honors. The complete list of selections is listed at the bottom of the release.

Sacramento State returns to action on Friday, September 11 as they travel to San Francisco to take on the USF Dons as part of the Santa Clara Tournament. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
