MEN'S SOCCER DROPS CAUSEWAY CLASH WITH UC DAVIS

9/23/2007

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer team fell to rival UC Davis in a Causeway Cup matchup by a score of 3-0 on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Hornet Soccer Field.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-7-1 on the season, while the Aggies improve to 5-1-1.

UC Davis came out strong to start the contest, as Paul Marcoux connected on his fourth goal of the season in the 7th minute to give the Aggies a 1-0 advantage that they would take into the half.

Just five minutes and change into the second half, the Aggies struck again as Nicholas Lind found the back of the net to increase UC Davis' lead to 2-0.  With less than ten minutes to play, UC Davis added another insurance goal as Julien Cerutti scored to account for the final of 3-0.

The Hornets were outshot by the Aggies 18-5 in the match, including 11-5 in the second half of play. Freshman Fernando Cabadas led Sacramento State with three shots, while juniors Blake Nunes and Omar Martinez added a shot apiece.

The two rivals played with great intensity on the pitch, as 36 fouls were whistled and four cautions were handed out, including one red card.

Sacramento State has a week before their next contest, as they host the Menlo College Oaks at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 30. That game will be the second game of a doubleheader with women's soccer, who take on UTEP at 12 p.m.
