MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO NO. 20 UC IRVINE 3-1

IRVINE, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer held an early lead, but fell to No. 20 ranked UC Irvine by a score of 3-1 on Friday, Sept. 14.

With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-4-0, while the Anteaters improve to 4-0-0.

Sacramento State struck first, as in the 40th minute freshman Ernesto Carranza connected on his second goal in as many games, off of a cross from fellow freshman Cody Shields, to give the Hornets a 1-0 advantage.

The Anteaters came out of the locker room a different team after being outplayed for the first 45 minutes. They knotted the score at 1-1 in the 48th minute on a goal from Rafael Macedo, and took the lead eight minutes later on a goal by J.T. Terrazas, which made the score 2-1. They added a late goal by Matt Murphy to account for the final margin of 3-1.

The Hornets were outshot 9-3 in the second half after playing the nationally ranked Anteaters even through the first half in terms of shots. Senior Eli Millan led Sacramento State with three shots, including one on goal. Sophomore Ryan Kenny, the MPSF leader in saves, posted six on the evening.

Sacramento State is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 16 as they take on the UC Riverside Highlanders. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
