MEN'S SOCCER DROPS DECISION TO BUTLER

9/2/2007

DAYTON, Ohio - The Sacramento State men's soccer team fell to the Butler Bulldogs in both team's second game at the Dayton Marriot Flyer Classic by a score of 4-0 on Sun., Sept. 2.

With the loss the Hornets fall to 0-2-0 on the season, while the Bulldogs improve to 2-0-0.

The Hornets were tested by a very game Bulldog club that outshot Sacramento State 13-0 in the first half.  The Bulldogs got first half goals from Ben Sippola and Dustin Mares to give Butler a 2-0 lead heading into the half.

At the start of the second half, the Hornets had a good chance to score, as in the 53rd minute, junior Omar Martinez got his head on a corner kick-cross from senior Eli Millan and hit it just high of the goal. The Bulldogs added goals in the 65th and 86th minute to take the game 4-0.

After the match, the Dayton Marriot Flyer Classic All-Tournament team was announced, and juniors Brady Nunes and Josh Zimbrich were named to the team.  Butler junior Frank Patano was honored as the tournament's most valuable player.

The Hornets return to Sacramento for a weekend homestand, as they host Portland on Sept. 7 and Oregon State on Sept. 9.  The Hornets will face the Pilots on Friday at 5 p.m. and the Beavers on Sunday at 1 p.m.  Both games will be part of a doubleheader with the women's soccer team.
