NO. 2 NEW MEXICO SCORES IN OT FOR 1-0 WIN OVER MEN'S SOCCER

10/15/2005

Senior goalkeeper Matt McDougall made a match-high 10 saves and held No.2 New Mexico scoreless for over 90 minutes, but in overtime, Lobos’ midfielder Lars Loeseth scored in the 96th minute to give New Mexico a 1-0 victory.

The Lobos maintain their undefeated record of 10-0-1 and 2-0-1 in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation while Sacramento State falls to 5-4-1 on the season and 0-2-0 in conference.

Loeseth’s first goal of the season was a 15-yard header off a free kick from midfielder Lance Watson.

Sacramento State was outshot 27-5 during the match with Loeseth leading the Lobos with six shots and senior midfielder Marco Ramirez leading the Hornets with two shots.

It was just the third time this season that Sacramento State has been held scoreless as Mike Graczyk picked up the shutout for New Mexico.

Defenders Utodi MaduJeff Buddenbohn, Ismael Echeverria and Eric Ortiz each played the entire 96 minutes for Sacramento State on the back line in an effort to hold off the Lobos.

The Hornets will end a three-game MPSF road trip on Sunday at UNLV. The match is set to start at 12 p.m. and can be followed on gametracker at www.unlvrebels.com.
