11/7/2004

Sacramento, Calif - A goal in the 10th minute from New Mexico’s Lance Watson was all the No. 2 Lobos needed in 1-0 win over Sacramento State at Hornet Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Lobos (15-1-1, 9-1-1) are ranked No.2 in the Soccer America Top-25 and No. 8 in the College Soccer News Top-

Watson, whose goal was his seventh of the season, received a pass from Jeff Rowland and from near the top of the penalty box rocketed a shot on the ground that hugged the near post, past diving Hornet goalkeeper Matt McDougall.

The Lobos got other chances on the afternoon, but McDougall protected the net with a match-high eight saves. Including one-on-one saves against New Mexico’s Brandon Moss and Erik Bagwell.

In front of a 400-plus crowd, Sacramento State pelted the Lobos'' goal, with five of its nine shots falling on frame. Senior forward Patrick Nelle led the Hornets, forcing New Mexico goalkeeper Andrew Weber to make three saves. Senior defender Juan Carlos Cortez, Jr. placed two shots on goal. Weber finished the match with five saves.

The Lobos, who placed nine shots on frame, were led by Patrick Grange’s four shots on goal.
