MEN'S SOCCER DEFEATS SJSU, 3-2, IN OVERTIME; SETS UP REMATCH IN MPSF TOURNAMENT

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sophomore Isaac Ikyurav scored with just 49 seconds remaining in the first overtime and the Sacramento State men's soccer team secured a 3-2 Senior Day victory over San Jose State on Saturday afternoon in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at Hornet Field.
The Hornets' (9-7-2, 5-4-1 MPSF) win sets up a rematch with San Jose State (8-7-3, 5-5-0) in the first round of the MSPF Tournament on Nov. 10 in Denver, Colo.
Sacramento State earned three points with the win on Saturday and secured the No. 4 seed in the tournament with 16 total points. The Hornets jumped San Jose State (15 points), which is now the No. 5 seed.
No. 1 seed New Mexico and No. 2 seed CSU Bakersfield receive byes for the first round of the MPSF tournament which sets up No. 4 Sacramento State vs. No. 5 San Jose State and No. 3 Air Force vs. No. 6 Denver in quarterfinal matches. The Hornets will play the first game on Thursday, with kick-off at 4 p.m. PT.
On Saturday, which was Senior Day for the Hornets' six graduating student-athletes, Sacramento State struck early and often against the Spartans.
Senior Chris Bettencourt scored his team-high seventh goal of the season in the 24th minute after his cousin and fellow senior, Adam Bettencourt, found him with a through ball to the left side of the box.
An own goal in the 28th minute tied up the game and the score remained 1-1 at halftime.
In the 48th minute, Chris Bettencourt returned the favor with a short pass from the top of the box to freshman Isaac Flores who buried the ball inside the far post for his second goal of the season.
Nick Cashmere tied up the game, 2-2, in the 83rd minute when he beat Sacramento State keeper Bryan Oliver one-on-one.
In overtime another first-year player scored for the Hornets. Ikyurav, who transferred in before the season from American University in Nigeria, scored with just 49 seconds left in the first overtime to seal the win. Chris Bettencourt once again had the assist, as he collected a lose ball in the box and fed Ikyurav on the left side for a wide open shot.
Sacramento State now has a chance for its third straight season with 10 or more wins after having just one 10-win season in the previous 18 years since the program moved to Div. I in 1991.
