MEN'S SOCCER PLAYS HOST TO NO. 25 CSU BAKERSFIELD AND SEATTLE U THIS WEEKEND

Men's soccer will try to remain undefeated all-time against No. 25 CSU Bakersfield this weekend.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer team will play its first Mountain Pacific Sports Federation home games this season when No. 25 ranked CSU Bakersfield and Seattle U visit Hornet Field.

The Hornets (5-3-1, 1-0-0 MPSF) will play the undefeated Roadrunners (5-0-4, 1-0-0) at 4 p.m. on Friday and then meet the Redhawks (1-5-2, 0-1-0) at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

ALL-TIME SERIES
The Hornets are undefeated all-time against CSU Bakersfield with a 4-0-2 record. The teams met three times last year, playing to draws in two regular season meetings before the Hornets prevailed, 2-1, in overtime of the MPSF Tournament Championship. Sacramento State is 2-1 all-time against Seattle U as the Redhawks are playing just their third season in the MPSF.

SIMILAR FOES
CSU Bakersfield went 3-0-2 against Oregon State, UC Riverside, UC Davis, Saint Mary's and San Francisco while the Hornets post a 2-2-1 mark against those five similar foes. Seattle played UC Davis to a 1-1 draw and lost to UC Santa Barbara while Sacramento State also lost to the Gauchos but defeated the Aggies, 3-2, in double overtime.

SCOUTING THE HORNETS
Sacramento State has the No. 6 scoring offense in the nation, averaging 2.44 goals per game. Chris Bettencourt has a team-best four goals this season while four players are tied for the team lead with two assists. The Hornets have scored 22 goals on 126 shots and have allowed 12 scores on 148 shots this season. Sacramento State has used three keepers thus far in 2011 but sophomore Cesar Castillo has played the majority of minutes. Castillo sports a 1.24 goals against average with two shutouts and 32 saves. He ranks No. 23 in the NCAA averaging 5.33 saves per game.


SCOUTING THE ROADRUNNERS
Gyasi Zardes and the Roadrunners have been nearly unstoppable this season. Zardes is ranked No. 2 in the nation with 11 total goals and already has three hat tricks this season. The Hawthorne, Calif., native scored three goals each in wins over UC Riverside, San Francisco and Gonzaga. As a team, the Roadrunners have tallied 19 goals on 157 shots while surrendering just six scores on 95 shots. Jesus Sanchez and Richard Menjivar have combined for nine assists. Keeper Eric Shannon has a 0.61 goals against average with 33 saves in 880 minutes.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Seattle has scored just five goals on 92 shots this season while allowing 16 goals on 135 shots. Travis Helm leads the team with a pair of goals while Mikey Ramos has a team-best two assists. Keeper Jake Feener has played the vast majority of minutes in net and has a 1.79 goals against average with 37 saves in 753 minutes. Seattle U will play San Jose State on Friday before traveling to Sacramento.

THIS WEEKEND IN THE MPSF
In other conference action this weekend, UNLV and New Mexico will travel to Air Force and Denver.
