Adam Bettencourt and Oscar Torrico were named to the 2010 MPSF All-Academic Team.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer team earned a pair of selections to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, the league announced on Thursday.

Oscar Torrico and Adam Bettencourt were honored for the Hornets.

To be selected, a student-athlete had to hold a 3.0 or higher cumulative grade point average and play in at least 50-percent of the his team's games. First year student-athletes (freshmen and first-year transfers) were not eligible.

Torrico, who has a team-best 3.711 GPA in sociology, made 12 starts while playing in 21 games. As a part of the staunch Hornet defense, Torrico helped limit opponents to a 0.97 goals against average and just 24 total scores while the Hornets netted 34 goals. The redshirt sophomore is a native of Vista, Calif.

Bettencourt, who holds a 3.270 GPA in construction management, made six starts while playing in 17 games. The redshirt junior from Hilmar, Calif., scored two goals while recording 13 shots this season. The team captain scored his first goal of the season in the Hornets' 2-0 victory over then-No. 10 ranked UC Irvine and again versus Air Force in the first round of the MPSF Tournament.

The Hornets will be holding their postseason awards banquet on Feb. 13, celebrating their MPSF Tournament victory and NCAA second round appearance.
