MEN'S SOCCER FALLS IN SEASON FINALE AT SAN JOSE STATE

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer team fell in their season finale to the San Jose State Spartans by a score of 4-1 on Saturday, Nov. 15 at Spartan Stadium.

With the loss, the Hornets close out the season with a 8-9-2 mark, including a 3-7 record in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play, while the Spartans finish the season 9-5-4, 5-4-1 in the MPSF.

San Jose State opened the scoring in the ninth minute, as Ricky Dorrego scored off of a double-assist to give his team a 1-0 lead. The lead grew to 2-0 in the 15th minute, as Dorrego assisted Nick Cukar on his ninth goal of the season. Dorrego then added his second goal of the game in the 35th minute, giving the Spartans a 3-0 halftime advantage.

The Hornets pulled the deficit back to two goals at 3-1 in the second half, as junior Jason Duvall found the back of the net for his first career goal. San Jose State tallied a final goal in the 88th minute, as Sky Cutler found the back of the net, accounting for the final margin of 4-1.

For the match the Hornets outshot the Spartans 18-13, but San Jose State put 12 of their 13 shots on frame. Redshirt freshman Chris Bettencourt led all players with six shots, including three on goal, while sophomore Fernando Cabadas added three shots and two on goal. Junior Nick Gargiulo got the start in net for the Hornets, making four saves in 90 minutes.

The teams played 10-on-10 soccer for the final 34th minutes, as San Jose State's Ed Brand and Sacramento State senior Blake Nunes received simultaneous red cautions.

The contest served as the final game in the Green and Gold for six seniors: P.J. Egloria, Martinez, Blake NunesBrady NunesAdam Owens and Josh Zimbrich.
