10/22/2007

WOODLAND, Calif. - Sacramento State junior Blake Nunes was named Mountain Pacific Sports Federation/Brine Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 15-21, as announced by the conference office today.

Nunes scored two goals this past weekend in Colorado, leading the Hornets to a 2-1 win against Air Force and 1-1 draw at Denver, propelling the Hornets into third place in the MPSF.

The Wailuku, Hawai'i native scored in the final minute of regulation against Denver, tying the score at 1-1 and forcing overtime.  Against Air Force, Nunes scored the opening goal of the contest in the 57th minute, to put the Hornets on top.

Nunes, who had just one goal on the year coming into the weekend, now ranks 11th in the MPSF with 0.25 goals per game.

Sacramento State has a week off before returning to action at Hornet Soccer Field, hosting Denver and Air Force. The Pioneers travel to Sacramento to take on the Hornets on Friday, Nov. 2, while the Hornets will entertain the Falcons on Sunday, Nov. 4.
