MEN’S SOCCER DROPS FIRST HOME GAME, 3-0, TO NO. 24 SAN JOSE STATE
SACRAMENTO, Calif.— Men's soccer (3-3-1) ended its four-game home
winning streak Sunday afternoon at Hornet Field after a 3-0 loss to No.
24 San Jose State to open MPSF Conference play.
San Jose State scored all three of its goals in the first half by Tony
Chang and Jorge Martinez to keep the Spartans at 5-0 on the year.
Chang got the Spartans on the board first with a goal in the 13th minute
from an assist by Lars Lyssard. Martinez then added his goals in the
27th and 40th minute, respectively. Goalkeeper Chris Humphreys recorded
his fourth shutout on the season with two saves.
Goalkeeper Joey Hills, in his first start between the posts for the
Hornets, finished the contest with seven saves.
The Hornets will play two road games next week against Cal State
Northridge on Friday, Sept. 29, at 7 p.m., then at UC Santa Barbara at 2
p.m.
