SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men’s soccer program announced the addition of goalkeeper Ryan Kenny to the 2006 recruiting class, it was announced today.Kenny, who spent last season redshirting at UC Santa Barbara, is a 2005 graduate of Buchanan High school in Clovis, Calif.
He was named to the Fresno Bee’s all-city team and was a three-time all-county selection, while guiding the Bears to the Tri-City Athletic Conference title as a junior and the CIF Division I Championships as a sophomore.
“We are excited to have Ryan,” head coach Michael Linenberger said. “He has great physical dimensions and will challenge for a starting position right away. Although he didn’t play at UCSB, he brings valuable NCAA championship experience to Sacramento State.”
At the club level, Kenny competed for the California Odyssey, helping lead the team to the Nor Cal and state championships, while also advancing to the Regional IV finals in 2005. Kenny also spent time in between the posts for the Nor Cal ODP team for three years, advancing to the finals of the ODP Region IV Tournament.
Kenny joins fellow Odyssey teammate, Emmanuel Ochoa and Natomas High School’s Shelby Johnson, as part of the Hornets’ 2006 recruiting class.
Sacramento State is coming off its best season since 1992. The Hornets finished 2005 with a 9-7-2 record and also maintained a program-record eight-match unbeaten streak on their home field. Linenberger was named co-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Coach of the year and a program-record six players earned all-conference honors.
