MEN’S SOCCER FALLS 1-0 TO UC DAVIS

Sacramento, Calif - A goal in the 78th minute from UC Davis forward Ryan Shaw, gave the Aggies a 1-0 win over Sacramento State at Hornet Soccer Field on Tuesday afternoon.

The game was a late addition to the schedule, after both teams had games canceled because of poor weather earlier in the season.

Shaw scored his ninth goal of the season off a pass from Gabe Garcia. Shaw was seven yards out from goal and struck the ball low to the near post, past Hornet goalkeeper Matt McDougall, who finished the match with two saves.

The Aggies improve to 6-9-2, while the Hornets fall to 5-12-1.

Sacramento State dominated the match offesnsively, taking 12 shots compared to the Aggies’ six, but UC Davis goalkeeper Charles Warne had a game-high four saves.

Junior midfielder Marco Ramirez led Sacramento State with two shots on goal, and came close to scoring the equalizer in the last minute of the match when his shot went just left of the far post.

The match was littered with a total of seven yellow cards, UC Davis with four and Sacramento State with three. The teams also combined for a total of 38 fouls.

The teams also met earlier this season with the Aggies gaining a 2-1 victory at UC Davis.

For the Hornets, it was their third loss this season at Hornet Soccer Field. Sacramento State will finish the 2004 season with a 7:05 p.m. match, Thursday at San Jose State.
