NOTES

Sacramento State has won three of its last four matches and has moved into a two-way tie for third place in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation with a conference record of 3-3. The Hornets are on a two-game winning streak, led by sophomore forward Ryan Rhoads and junior midfielder Ricky Rodriguez. Rhoads was named co-Brine PLayer of the Week, after scoring the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over San Diego State. The Beyer High School graduate then scored in third minute of the match against UNLV, helping the Hornets to a 2-1 victory. Of the four goals Sacramento State scored last weekend, Rodriguez had an assist in three of them. Rodriguez, of Vacaville High School, was also the previous week’s co-Brine POW. With the wins over the Aztecs and Rebels, the Hornets remained undefeated at Hornet Soccer Field with a 4-0-1 record.

STAT LEADERS

With Sacramento State’s recent success, the Hornets have been moving up the statistical ladder in the MPSF...Rhoads, with his team-high four goals, is third in the conference in goals...Rodriguez is tied for second in the conference with a team-high five assists...Rodriguez also leads the team with nine points...junior goalkeeper Matt McDougall leads the MPSF with 68 saves on the season...senior defender Marcos Mercado is now fourth in program history with 58 career starts...Sacramento State has six players (Rhoads, Rodriguez, Eli Millan, Patrick Nelle, Marco Ramirez and Andrew Tamm) ranked in the top-30 of MPSF scorers, behind New Mexico and Denver, who each have seven players in the top-30.

UPCOMING MATCHES

Sacramento State will have one of its toughest home tests of the season on Friday, Oct. 22 at 4 p.m. The Denver Pioneers (7-3-1, 4-1-0) visit Hornet Soccer Field after a 2-1 upset win over second-ranked New Mexico on Sunday, Oct. 17. Senior forward Christian Bowers, who has four goals and three assists on the season, scored the game-winner and assisted on the first goal against the Lobos. Bowers was named co-Brine POW along with Rhoads. Denver’s goalkeeper, freshman Matt Bredehoft, leads the MPSF with a 0.62 goals against average. On Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m., Sacramento State will conclude its four-game homestand against Air Force (6-5-1, 2-3-0). The Falcons are coming off a 2-0 loss to New Mexico on Friday, Oct. 15, and are led by senior Marcus Sagastume, who has scored four goals and tallied three assists.
