MEN’S SOCCER BEGINS FOUR-GAME HOMESTAND

The Hornets return home with an undefeated record, 2-0-1, at Hornet Soccer Field. Sacramento State defeated the defending Mountain Pacific Sports Federation champions at Hornet Soccer Field with a 4-3 overtime win over San Jose State on Friday. The Hornets got two goals and two assists from junior forward Ricky Rodriguez, who was named co-Brine Player of the Week after his six-point performance. Sophomore Ryan Rhoads scored his first two goals of the season, including the game-winner in the 95th minute. After the Hornets garnered their first MPSF win, they travelled to New Mexico for a match with the currently fourth-ranked Lobos on Sunday. The Hornets were held scoreless and the Lobos’ Jeff Krause scored a match-high two goals.

STAT LEADERS

Junior goalkeeper Matt McDougall leads the MPSF with 56 saves in 10 matches. He averages 5.60 saves per game. Junior midfielder Marco Ramirez leads the Hornets with seven points this season; two goals and three assists. He ranks 13th in the MPSF. Rodriguez ranks 19th with .60 points per match.

UPCOMING MATCHES

Sacramento State will now enjoy a four-game homestand after playing its first seven of 10 matches on the road. On Friday, Oct. 15 at 4 p.m., the Hornets will play San Diego State (2-7-1, 2-1-0). The Aztecs are coming off of a 2-1 loss to Denver and a 3-0 shutout win over Air Force, where Aztec forward Matt Crouch scored two goals. It will also be the last time San Diego State will play at Hornet Soccer Field as members of the MPSF. The Aztecs announced their 2005 move to the Pac-10 last week. On Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m., Sacramento State will play UNLV (3-7-0, 1-3-0). The Rebels are coming to Hornet Soccer Field after picking up their first two MPSF wins of the year. The Rebels defeated Denver 1-0 on Friday and also knocked off Air Force, 2-1, on Sunday. Forward Rod Dyachenko scored the game-winner against the Pioneers and assisted on the game-winner against the Falcons. Sunday will also be Youth Soccer Day. The men’s game will be followed by the Sacramento State women’s team, who will play UC Davis at 3:30 p.m. Youth players that wear their team jerseys will be admitted to the doubleheader for $1.
