SACRAMENTO, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s soccer team signed forward Lucio Orellana to a National Letter of Intent, it was announced today. Orellana joins goalkeeper Adam Richardson, who inked with the program in April, as part of the 2004 recruiting class. Both signees will enroll as freshmen at Sacramento State in the fall of 2004.A senior at Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, Calif., Orellana is a two-sport athlete for the Lancers. In soccer, Orellana was a team captain and earned first team all-Sierra Valley Conference and team MVP honors as a senior. A three-year member of the varsity squad, he earned the Top Sophomore Award in 2001. In track and field, Orellana is currently a member of the 4x100-meter relay team. As a junior, he earned all-SVC accolades in the 110 and 300-meter hurdles. Orellana is a four-year member of the River City United Soccer Club (1998-2004) and has led the squad in scoring each year.
Sacramento State head coach Michael Linenberger said Orellana will contribute immediately up front for the Hornets and will learn under seniors David Fraser and Patrick Nelle.
