MEN'S SOCCER DROPS 3-0 CONTEST TO GONZAGA AT GOAL RUSH CLASSIC

Gonzaga’s Kari Arnason finished with a game-high two goals and an assist to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 win over the Sacramento State men’s soccer team Sunday afternoon at the Goal Rush Classic. The match marked the final contest for the two schools in the tournament.

Host Fresno State won the even after finishing the weekend with wins over Alabama A&M and Gonzaga. Sacramento State began the tournament with a 2-0 loss to Alabama A&M on Friday.

The Hornets are now 2-4-1 on the year while the Bulldogs raised their record to 4-3.

Gonzaga got on the board first in the 22nd minute when Arnason connected on a shot from five-yards out after a cross by teammate Scott Bertram.

Arnason added his second goal of the contest in the 32nd minute after driving a ball into the Hornet goal from 25 yards.

The Bulldogs made tallied their final goal in the 68th minute when Luke Miller deflected a shot in the net after a cross from the right side by Arnason.

Sacramento State will begin Mountain Pacific Sports Federation play on Friday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. when the Hornets travel to San Jose State to face the Spartans in Spartan Stadium. The Hornets will conclude the weekend on Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m. against UC Santa Barbara at Hornet Soccer Field. The match is the second of a scheduled double header with the Hornet women’s soccer team.
