WOODLAND, Calif. – Sacramento State has been chosen as the host institution for the 2003 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men’s Soccer Championship, it was announced today. The tournament , which features the top six MPSF teams, will be held Nov. 13-16. Sacramento State was selected over New Mexico by a unanimous vote of 7-0 by MPSF head coaches in a conference meeting on Feb. 10. It marks the first time a Hornet soccer program will host a postseason event in Sacramento State athletics history.
Since renovations to Hornet Soccer Field were completed in the summer of 2002, the facility became capable of hosting an event and interest grew within the conference as the season progressed. The renovations began when permanent fencing was installed around the field before the start of the 2001 season and a new scoreboard was installed at the conclusion of the year. In the summer of 2002, the grass was ripped out the field was leveled. The facility was replaced with sod and permanent bleachers were installed.
The men’s soccer team will begin spring play on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. with matches against San Francisco and Fresno State at Hornet Soccer Field.
