WOODLAND, Calif. – Sacramento State seniors Justin Ancheta and Hjalti Kristjansson, juniors Eric Rabbon and Sam Sneed and sophomores Alexis Maúrtua and Patrick Nelle were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men’s Soccer Academic All-Conference Team, it was announced today. For Maúrtua, Nelle, Rabbon and Sneed it was their first academic all-conference selection.The honor is given to student-athletes who have accumulated a 3.0 gpa or higher, are at least a sophomore academically and have played in at least half of the team’s contests while making a major contribution. The student-athlete must have completed one full academic year at the institution prior to the season for which the reward is being received.
Ancheta, a native of Meadow Vista, Calif., played in 15 games including 11 starts as an outside midfielder for the Hornets. The senior recorded his first collegiate goal in a 3-1 win over Cal Poly on Sept. 6, 2002. In his career, Ancheta appeared in 58 games including 19 starts while recording one goal, three assists and five points. A three-time academic all-conference selection, Ancheta currently has a 3.0 gpa and is on pace to graduate in May of 2004.
Kristjansson, a native of Kopavogur, Iceland, started all 17 contests he appeared in as a defensive midfielder. The senior recorded one goal, one assist and three points. In his Hornet career, Kristjansson started all 52 contests while recording six goals, three assists and 15 points. In 2000, Kristjansson became the first Hornet to receive first team all-conference honors since 1997. A three-time all-MPSF and two-time academic all-conference selection, Kristjansson currently has a 3.1 gpa and is on pace to graduate in December of 2003.
Rabbon, a native of Sacramento, appeared in 13 games for the Hornets after transferring from Cosumnes River College. The forward recorded his first goal as a Hornet against New Mexico on Nov. 1, 2002. Rabbon also finished the season with two points.
Sneed, a native of Park City, Utah, participated in 18 contests including three starts as an outside midfielder. The junior recorded an assist against New Mexico on Nov. 1, 2002. In his career, Sneed has appeared in 41 games including nine starts while tallying one goal, five assists and seven points.
Maúrtua, a native of Sacramento, started 12 of 14 contests as a defender for the Hornets. The sophomore recorded the first two goals of his Sacramento State career against UC Irvine on Sept. 15, 2002. In his career, Maúrtua has started 21 of 25 games while recording two goals and four points.
Nelle, a native of Sacramento, appeared in 18 contests including seven starts as a forward. The sophomore recorded two goals and four points including a game-winning goal against Dominican on Sept. 22, 2002. For his career, Nelle has participated in 35 games including 11 starts while tallying four goals, two assists and 10 points.
