SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The Sacramento State men’s soccer team announced its third signing of the 2002 season by inking Armijo High School midfielder Miguel Ramirez on Wednesday. Ramirez will enroll at Sacramento State as a freshman in the fall.

The central midfielder was a member of the Armijo HS varsity squad from 1999-2001, and was named team captain as a junior and senior. Ramirez earned Monticello Empire League MVP honors and team MVP after his senior season. Ramirez was also an all-MEL honorable mention selection and team MVP as a junior. He holds the Armijo school record for single-season goals (31) and career goals (73).

Ramirez competed for the Solano Soccer Club where he was named team captain and Ballistic Tournament MVP in 2001. He also played for the U-19 Olympic Developmental Program Cal-North State Team in 2000.

Academically, Ramirez graduated from Armijo HS with a 3.857 gpa while also being ranked 16th out of 540 students in his senior class.

Sacramento State head coach Michael Linenberger expects Ramirez to make an impact for the program in the 2002 season. He joins goalkeeper Ryan Jimenez (Castro Valley) and defender Utodi Madu (Valley) as the first three Hornet signees of the year.
