SAN JOSE, Calif. -- The men’s soccer team and San Jose State ended with a 0-0 tie during a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation contest Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

The Hornets are now 2-6-4 overall and 1-1-2 in MPSF play while the Spartans are 7-5-1, 1-1-1. Sacramento State is off to its best conference start since 1992 (2-2).

San Jose goalkeeper Daniel Benton recorded a game-high 11 saves while Hornet senior keeper Leo Marin finished the contest with seven.

Each team registered 26 shots in the match with Sacramento State placing 13 of its shots on goal to the Spartans eight.

With the overtime contest, Sacramento State set a new Div. I program record for extra period games in a season with seven. The previous mark of six was held by the 1992 squad. The Hornets are now 0-3-4 in its overtime matches this season.

The team will next host New Mexico at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26, at Hornet Soccer Field.
