SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. -- The men’s soccer team and San Francisco played two-overtime periods and 120 minutes but ended with a 1-1 tie, during a nonconference contest Tuesday evening at Negoesco Stadium. The Hornets increased their record to 1-3-2 overall while the Dons are 5-2-1 on the season. The team has now competed in five overtime contests in six games, the team is 0-3-2 in those matches.
San Francisco got on the board first as senior midfielder Gerard Hijlkema scored on a header from teammate Stian Hasle’s corner kick.
The Hornets answered back in the second period as junior defender Hjalti Kristjansson scored his first goal of the season on an 18-yard free kick in the 63rd minute.
Both teams played evenly throughout the contest as the Dons finished with 11 shots (five on goal) while the Hornets tallied 10 shots (six on goal).
Senior goalkeeper Leo Marin finished the game with four saves to lead the Hornets.
The team will next travel to Loyola Marymount to take on the Lions at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at Sullivan Field.
