CORVALLIS, Ore. -- Gonzaga midfielder Abbas Faridnia’s goal in the 95th-minute gave the Bulldogs a 1-0 overtime victory over the Sacramento State men’s soccer team in the final day of the Oregon State Diadora Classic, Sunday afternoon. The Hornets dropped a, 3-2, double-overtime contest to host Oregon State on Friday. Both schools played evenly throughout the contest as Hornet senior goal keeper Leo Marin (four saves) and Gonzaga’s Mike McCarthy (two saves) kept the game at a stand still until Faridnia found the net on a penalty kick in the first overtime period.
Sacramento State dropped to 1-3-1 on the season while the Bulldogs raised their record to 3-2. It was the fourth-overtime contest in five games for the Hornets with the team finishing 0-3-1 in that span.
Junior midfielder David Rios and freshman forward Patrick Nelle each finished with three shots, respectively, to lead the Hornets.
Sacramento State will take a week off before travelling to Negoesco Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. to take on San Francisco.
