HARBATSIUK AND KAPSHAI GET SET FOR NCAA SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIPS

STANFORD, Calif. - Sacramento State senior men’s tennis player Kiryl Harbatsiuk and junior women’s tennis player Tatsiana Kapshai will compete in the first round of the NCAA Tennis Singles Championship on Wednesday, May 25, at Taube Family Stadium on the Stanford campus. Both Harbatsiuk and Kapshai earned Big Sky Conference MVP honors, are currently ranked by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and received automatic berths into the tournament.
Harbatsiuk, who is ranked 29th in the nation by the ITA, will take on North Carolina sophomore Jose Hernandez tomorrow at 2 p.m. Hernandez is ranked 22nd in the nation. Harbatsiuk will be making his second straight appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships. Last year, he became the first Sacramento State men’s tennis player to qualify for the event, but fell in the first round to Tulsa’s Marcelo Arevalo, 7-6 (8), 6-2.
Kapshai, who is ranked 102nd in the nation, will take on Florida International senior Liset Brito tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Brito is currently ranked 62nd in the nation. Kapshai will be making her first appearance at the NCAA Singles Championships and becomes the fourth Hornet in school history to compete in the singles portion of the event, joining Katrina Zheltova (2007-09), Margarita Karnaukhova (2004-06) and Anna Erikson (2004).
