THREE CAREER NIGHTS ON FLOOR CAN'T PROPEL GYMNASTICS OVER #12 DENVER

Freshman Kailey Hansen finished first on floor and helped Sacramento State to a season high in the event.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Three career highs on floor led to Sacramento State's season best in the event but it was not enough as the Hornet gymnastics team fell to #12 Denver, 193.975-191.675, Friday evening at the Hornets Nest.
The loss snapped Sacramento State's three-meet winning streak and moved the team to 5-5. The Pioneers improved to 8-5.
Trailing by over three points heading into the final rotation, the Hornets posted their best floor score of the year with a total of 49.050. The final five gymnasts in the lineup each scored 9.700 or better, including four scores of at least 9.800. Freshman Kailey Hansen led the way with a career-high tying 9.875 which tied for first in the meet. Senior Jasmine Lipka was third with a 9.850 and freshman Katie Osaki finished fourth with a career-best 9.825. Bethany Barrick matched her career best with a 9.800 to place fifth.
Sacramento State began the night on vault and scored 48.225 and was in striking distance of the Pioneers in the early going. Amanda Blauvelt and Nicole Meiller each tied for fourth place with a team high 9.700. \ Hansen and Amanda Bieber also contributed to the team total with a 9.650 and 9.600, respectively.
Denver scored 48.400 on vault during the first rotation. The Pioneers swept the top three spots as Bri Springer finished first with a 9.875 and Annamari Maaranen and Louise Mercer tied for second at 9.800.
The Hornets' hopes for an upset were dampened during the second rotation as the team scored 47.100 on bars compared to to 48.675 on vault from DU. Blauvelt and Meiller were, ocne again, the top scorers for Sacramento State. Blauvelt finished in fourth place with a 9.700 while Meiller was fifth with a 9.625.
Springer, Moriah Martin and Melodie Pulgarin claimed the top three spots on vault. Springer scored 9.800 to lead the way. Martin received a 9.775 and Pulgarin recorded a 9.700.
Sacramento State continued its skid during the third rotation, scoring 47.300 on beam and counting a pair of falls. Blauvelt and senior Lissa Zamolo tied for the team lead with 9.675s to tie for fourth.
The event was won by Denver's Jorie Hall with a 9.850. Pulgarin was second and teammate Jaleesa Wilson finished third.
In the all-around, Spring earned the top spot with a four-event total of 38.750. Blauvelt recorded her career high for the second consecutive week, scoring 38.550.
Sacramento State returns to action on Sunday, March 6 when it takes on San Jose State at the Hornets Nest at 2 p.m.
