SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The Sacramento State men's soccer program will host games on Friday and Sunday as part of the Copa de Causeway soccer tournament.
That includes matchups at Hornet Field against San Diego at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by another 4:30 p.m. start time on Sunday vs. Loyola Marymount. The games will be part of the Copa de Causeway, a four team, two-site tournament co-hosted by Sacramento State and UC Davis. The Aggies will face Loyola Marymount on Friday, and San Diego on Sunday.
Teams will receive three points for a win and one point for a tie to determine a champion while an all-tournament team will be announced following Sunday's games. Sacramento State enters the week with a 1-2-0 record after beating San Jose State on the road Sunday by a 2-0 score. Loyola Marymount is currently 1-2-1, San Diego is 1-2-0, and UC Davis is 2-2-0. The Hornets and Aggies will face each other twice later in the season as part of Big West Conference play.
Prior to Sunday's game, Sacramento State will welcome its newest member of the program, 13-year old Talon Bonanno, who will receive his jersey and take part in the ceremonial kickoff. Bonanno was diagnosed with neuroblastoma in March. A strong fighter and huge inspiration, Bonanno has gone through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and was able to graduate the eighth grade despite the adversity.
Bonanno comes to Sacramento State from Team IMPACT, a non-profit whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team.
After Sunday's game, Sacramento State will begin a season-high tying three-game road trip and will not return home until facing Cal State Northridge on Sept. 28.
