MEN'S SOCCER DROPS SEASON FINALE AT UC DAVIS

DAVIS, Calif. - UC Davis' Matt Wiesenfarth scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 47th minute, and the Sacramento State men's soccer team lost, 2-1, in a Big West Conference game on Saturday afternoon at Aggie Soccer Field.

The Hornets (8-8-2, 5-4-1 Big West) lost their season finale and, combined with Cal Poly's win over UC Santa Barbara, were knocked out of the Big West Tournament. With the loss to the the Aggies, Sacramento State needed UCSB to win at Cal Poly in order to secure the No. 2 seed out of the Big West North Division, however, Cal Poly won 1-0 to claim the No. 2 spot and bump the Hornets out of the tournament.

UC Davis (9-6-4, 7-3) earned 21 points in league play and claimed the Big West North Division title with its victory against the Hornets.

On Saturday afternoon, the Aggies jumped out to an early 1-0 lead on Wiesenfarth's goal in the eighth minute. After taking a pass from Alex Aguiar, Wiesenfarth connected on a header to the top right corner of the net.

Down 1-0, the Hornets answered just before halftime. Freshman Adam Rodriguez stole the ball away and found senior Max Alvarez, who dribbled around a defender and finished his shot to the bottom right corner.

But less than 80 seconds after halftime, Wiesenfarth scored again on a back heel goal to the lower right corner of the net.

UC Davis finished the game with a 14-10 edge on shots and 6-1 advantage on corner kicks. Sacramento State keeper Bryan Oliver made four saves with two goals allowed while UC Davis goalie Omar Zeenni nabbed two saves with one goal allowed.

If the Hornets advance to the Big West Tournament, they will play a road game on Wednesday against CSU Northridge, who claimed the No. 1 seed from the South Division.
