TAYLORS EACH SHOOT 74 IN FINAL ROUND OF BILL CULLUM INVITATIONAL
SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Eric and Owen Taylor each shot 74 to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team during the third round of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
The Hornets shot 301 as a team during the final round and finished tied for 17th place with a three-round total of 918. San Diego maintained its lead and won the tournament by nine strokes. The Torreros shot 850 and were followed by Arizona State (859), Washington State (866), Cal State Fullerton (868) and UC Irvine (872) in the top five.
Owen Taylor began on the 12th hole and parred his first three holes before birdying the par-5 15th. Back-to-back bogeys were followed by a birdie on the par-5 18th, before two more bogeys on Nos. 1 and 2. Taylor parred seven of the next nine holes with a birdie on the par-5 6th and a bogey on the par-4 11th.
Eric Taylor was 2-under through his first 10 holes with birdies on the par-3 13th and the par-5 2nd. Bogeys on Nos. 5 and 9 (both par 4) were followed by a birdie on the par-4 10th. Standing at 1-under Taylor triple bogeyed the par-4 11th before closing with a par on No. 12.
The twins each finished with a 54-hole total of 229 to tie for 57th place.
Senior Ryan Williams, who had led the Hornets in each tournament this season, shot 75 on Tuesday and finished tied for 65th. Williams began his round on the 10th hole and was 5-over at the turn with six pars, two bogeys and a triple bogey of the par-3 13th. On the front side of the course, he was 2-under with birdies on Nos. 2, 4 and 8 and a bogey on the par-3 3rd.
Jordan Swanson provided the final score towards the team total with a round of 78. Swanson had three birdies, eight pars, five bogeys and two double bogeys on Tuesday. He tied for 81st after shooting 81-75-78-234.
Freshman Aaron Beverly closed the tournament with his third straight round of 79. Beverly, who tied for 85th place, had one birdie, 11 pars, four bogeys and two double bogeys.
Sacramento State will close out the fall portion of its schedule at the Pacific Invitational beginning on Monday, Sept. 29.
