WILLIAMS' CAREER ROUND HELPS MEN'S GOLF TIE FOR FOURTH AT UCSB TOURNAMENT

Ryan Williams recorded his lowest round and 54-hole total at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Invite
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Behind a career best 2-under par 70 from Ryan Williams, the Sacramento State men's golf team finished tied for fourth place at the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Invitational on Tuesday.
The Hornets, who were in seventh place following the first two rounds, finished the third round at 5-over (293) as a team on Tuesday. That score was the third best of the day and helped the team move up the leaderboard. Long Beach State was 3-under par as a team in the third round and finished the tournament with a total of 854 to win the team title. Saint Mary's was second at 863, host UC Santa Barbara was third (876) and Loyola Marymount tied the Hornets for fourth at 884.
Senior Cameron Rappleye finished the tournament tied for seventh place with a 54-hole total of 216 — tied for the third best of his career. Rappleye shot 71 in the first two rounds and concluded the tournament with a 74.
Williams moved into a tie for 11th in the tournament behind a career best performance. The junior's total of 74-74-70-218 bettered his previous career low by five strokes. His final round 70 was also a career best by two strokes.
Jordan Weir provided a 74 and Grant Rappleye added a 75 to count towards the team's third-round total.
Grant Rappleye tied for 25th place with a total of 223. Jake Johnson tied for 51st (231) and Weir tied for 54th.
Xander Schauffele of Long Beach State was the medalist. Schauffele finished at 8-under with rounds of 71-69-68-208.
The Hornets will next be in action on Monday at the Braveheart Classic in Beaumont, Calif.
