WILLIAMS LEADS MEN'S GOLF ON TUESDAY; JOHNSON AND TEAM FINISH FOURTH

Ryan Williams led the Hornets with a third-round 74.

INDUSTRY HILLS, Calif. —
 Ryan Williams' 74 led the Sacramento State men's golf team in the third round of the Folino Invitational on Tuesday. The Hornets finished in fourth place as a team with a three-round total of 888.

Long Beach State overtook Pepperdine to win the team title. The 49ers shot 297-286-296-879. Pepperdine was second at 881 while host Cal State Fullerton jumped into third with a third-round best total of 290 to finish at 882.

Jake Johnson had the best individual performance for Sacramento State. The senior shot 74-69-75-218 to tie for fourth place. The finish marked the fourth top five performance by Johnson during his career. Pepperdine's Parker Page and Tyler Torano of Loyola Marymount shared medalist honors with a 54-hole total of 215.

On Tuesday, Williams opened his round on the 17th hole and was 3-over after two holes due to a triple bogey on the par-5 18th. The junior was 4-over after four holes before consecutive birdies on the par-4 3rd and 4th. Williams played his next five holes at 1-over but birdied the par-5 10th to return to 2-over for the round. After a bogey on the par-3 13th, Williams ended his round with two pars and a birdie on the par-4 16th. The 74 is tied for the second best round of his career.

Johnson and Grant Rappleye each shot 75 during the final round. Johnson began his day with an eagle on the par-5 1st but gave both strokes back with consecutive bogeys on the 4th and 5th. He then parred 11 of his final 13 holes with the exceptions being a bogey on the 10th and a double-bogey on the par-3 13th.

Grant Rappleye also began strongly with a birdie on the 1st. He stood at 2-over at the turn and eventually was 5-over after 14 holes. From that point, he birdied the 15th and and 17th to shoot 37 on the back nine. Rappleye tied for 12th overall with a total of 222.

Cameron Rappleye contributed a round of 76 and finished tied for 15th. Rappleye shot 39 on the front nine with seven pars, a bogey and a double bogey. On the back nine, the senior birdied the par-4 14th, had six pars and a pair of bogeys.

Freshman Owen Taylor shot 78 on Tuesday and concluded the tournament tied for 23rd with a 54-hole total of 228. Taylor's second-round 74 is tied for the second best of his career while his 54-hole mark was his third lowest.

Sacramento State returns to action on March 5 at the Fresno State Lexus Classic.
