GRANT RAPPLEYE FINISHES FOURTH, MEN'S GOLF TIES FOR FOURTH AT CULLUM INVITATIONAL

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Grant Rappleye recorded his third straight round of 70 and finished in fourth place to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team in the final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational on Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

As a team, the Hornets shot 296 in the third round and finished tied for fourth with a three-round total of 869. Arizona State and Long Beach State shared the team title as each team shot 853. Sacramento State's three-round total of 869 is tied for the eighth best in program history.

Spencer Fletcher of ASU and Loyola Marymount's Tyler Torano were co-medalists with a 54-hole total of 208. A playoff was not possible after the third round was delayed two hours by morning fog.

Rappleye's total of 210 was one stroke of his career best and is the fifth-lowest in school history. The Sacramento native shot 70 in all three rounds to finish the tournament at 6-under par.

On Tuesday, Rappleye was followed by senior Jake Johnson and sophomore Jordan Weir who each shot 74. Jordan Swanson added a round of 78 and Cameron Rappleye carded a 79.

Overall, Weir recorded his second top 10 finish of the season, tying for 10th place with a 54-hole total of 71-70-74-215. Swanson, who was competing with the team for the first time, tied for 38th with rounds of 70, 76 and 78.

A week after winning the Wildcat Invitational, Cameron Rappleye tied for 45th at 72-74-79-225. Johnson finished tied for 55th at 79-76-74-229.

The tournament was the final event of the fall season for the Hornets. The team will compete in six tournaments in the fall, beginning with the Folino Invitational in Irvine, Calif., on Feb. 19.
