JOHNSON SHOOTS EVEN PAR AT PALOUSE COLLEGIATE

Jake Johnson tied for seventh in his first tournament of the year.
PULLMAN, Wash. — Senior Jake Johnson finished at even par and tied for seventh to lead the Sacramento State men's golf team at the Palouse Collegiate held at Palouse Ridge Golf Club on Tuesday.
Johnson shot rounds of 73, 69 and 71 on the par-71 course and was eight strokes off the pace of medalist Jarred Bossio of Idaho. Bossio finished at 65-68-72-205 and was four strokes ahead of the rest of the field.
San Jose State ran away with the tournament title after shooting 278-285-279-842. The Spartans' closest competition was Utah Valley who totaled 859.
Sacramento State finished seventh at 301-285-291-877. In the final round, all five Hornets shot 74 or better, led by Johnson's 71. Jordan Weir and Cameron Rappleye each shot 73 while Grant Rappleye and Owen Taylor recorded rounds of 74.
Overall, Weir tied for 29th with a 54-hole total of 76-70-73-219. Grant Rappleye tied for 35th after shooting 76-72-74-222. Taylor, who was making his collegiate debut, shot 76-74-74-224 to tied for 45th and Cameron Rappleye tied for 63rd at 78-79-73-230.
The men will head east to compete at the Hartford Hawks Invitational beginning on Sept. 26.
