CAMERON RAPPLEYE FINISHES TIED FOR FOURTH AT ANTEATER INVITATIONAL

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — Sacramento State junior Cameron Rappleye continued his hot play with an even-par round of 72 to conclude play at the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday at Big Canyon Country Club. Rappleye finished the 54-hole event with a total of 72-70-72-214 which tied him for fourth place.

Overall, the Hornets fell to seventh place with a team score of 306 in Tuesday's lone round. Rappleye posted the lowest score on the team and was closely followed by freshman Jordan Weir, who carded a 73.

The team also counted a 79 from Jake Pineo and an 83 from Jake Johnson. Grant Rappleye shot 86 for the fifth score.

Johnson entered the final round tied for fourth place but dropped to a tie for 21st with a total of 73-69-82-224. Grant Rappleye tied for 50th at 73-74-86-233 and Pineo finished in 61st at 82-82-79-243.

Weir joined Cameron Rappleye as the only Hornets to shoot in the 70s for all three rounds, but the freshman was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard following the second round.

Arizona held withstood a late surge from host UC Irvine to win the team title. The Wildcats shot 285-292-295-872 to finish four strokes ahead of the Anteaters. UCI's third-round 291 was the lowest team score of the round.

The remainder of the top five consisted of Cal Poly (866), Santa Clara (888) and UC Santa Barbara (891).

Individually, Brian Harris defeated Cal State Northridge's Nick Delio in a playoff to become the medalist. Both golfers had a three-round total of 211 but Harris was able to eagle the par-5, 520-yard 18th, during the first hole of the playoff.

Sacramento State will have nearly a month off before returning to action at the Fresno State Lexus Classic on March 7.
