GRANT RAPPLEYE SHOOTS 65 TO HELP MEN'S GOLF SURGE TO SEVENTH PLACE

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — Grant Rappleye recorded a career-best round of 65 and tied the course record to lead all players in the third round of the Bill Cullum Invitational, Tuesday at Wood Ranch Golf Club. Rappleye's score is tied for second in school history and helped the Hornets finish seventh in the 15-team event.

Rappleye was one of three Sacramento State golfers to finish among the top 25. His brother, Cameron Rappleye, paced the Hornets by shooting 75-68-76-219 to tie for 17th overall. Freshman Jordan Weir was just one stroke behind Cameron, carding rounds of 77-71-72-220. Weir's total easily set his career best as a Hornet while his second and third round also marked his two lowest rounds of the year.

Grant Raplpeye tied for 25th overall after firing 80-77-65-222. His score on Tuesday was two strokes better than the closest competitor during the day. Rappleye's previous low this season was 69 at the Purple & Red Invitational. He now has seven rounds of 71 or better in his four tournaments (11 rounds).

Jake Johnson tied for 56th with rounds of 80-74-76-230. Jake Pineo shot 79-75-86-240 to tie for 78th.

UC Riverside shot 287 in the final round to move from third place to first. The Highlanders concluded the three-round event with a total of 871. San Jose State was second at 873 while host Cal State Northridge (880), Portland (881) and Cal State Bakersfield (883) finished third through fifth.

Individually, Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge, was the medalist behind rounds of 72-69-67-208.

The tournament was the final event for the Hornets during the fall portion of its season. The team will next compete at the UC Irvine Invitational on Feb. 7-8.
