THREE PLAYERS FINISH UNDER PAR AS MEN'S GOLF PLACES THIRD IN HAWAII

LIHUE, Hawaii — Sparked by three players under par, the Sacramento State men's golf team surged into third place during the final round of the Kauai Collegiate Invite, Wednesday at the Puakea Golf Club.

The Hornets were one of three teams in the field to shoot better than 290 in the final round. Sacramento State recorded a score of 287 and finished third overall at 290-288-287-865. The total was the best mark by the team during the fall's four events.

San Diego maintained its lead an won the event by 30 strokes. The Toreros ended at 274-276-279-829 while James Madison was second at 286-287-286-859.

On Wednesday, Cameron and Grant Rappleye and Jake Johnson each finished under par. Cameron Rappleye led the way with a round of 70 while Grant and Johnson each shot 71. Grant Rappleye had the best finish on the team recording a personal best 54-hole total of 211 to finish ninth. Rappleye opened the tournament with a round of 69 and then added two rounds of 71.

Johnson tied for 15th overall at 69-74-71-214 while Cameron Rappleye tied for 20th with rounds of 77-71-70-218. Kyle Candlish carded three rounds of 75 to tie for 34th with a total of 225 and Nick Neal overcame a round first round to tie for 42nd at 83-72-75-230.

The individual leaderboard was dominated by San Diego which had the top four finishers. Joseph Harrison was the medalist with a total of 68-68-69-205 despite playing as an individual and not counting towards the team total. Alex Ching was one stroke back in second while Ben Murray and Jason Shano each shot 208 to tie for third.

Sacramento State will close out its fall season at the Pacific Invitational on Nov. 2-4.
