JAKE JOHNSON HOLDS TWO-SHOT LEAD FOLLOWING FIRST DAY OF PURPLE & RED

LAYTON, Utah — Sacramento State sophomore Jake Johnson shot career best rounds of 67 and 69 and holds a two-stroke lead following the first day of the Purple and Red Invitational on Monday.

Johnson's two round total of 136 places him just ahead of Northern Colorado's Troy Sidabras and Southern Utah's Jeff Evans heading into Tuesday's final round.

As a team, the Hornets sit in sixth place with a score of 581. Arkansas-Little Rock leads the 11-team field with a total of 562. Host Weber State is second at 567 followed by Southern Utah (569), Northern Colorado (573) and Cal State Northridge (574) in the top five.

Kyle Candlish shot 75-71-146 to rank second on the team and tie for 27th in the field. Senior Nick Neal is tied for 37th overall at 73-75-148. Freshman Jake Pineo is tied for 50th with rounds of 77-74-151 and sophomore Grant Rappleye is tied for 55th at 78-75-153.
