RAPPLEYE AND JOHNSON EACH FINISH IN TOP 10; MEN'S GOLF PLACES FIFTH

PULLMAN, Wash. — Sophomores Grant Rappleye and Jake Johnson each shot 73 and finished in the top 10 in the final round of the Palouse Collegiate, Tuesday afternoon at the Palouse Ridge Golf Club. Rappleye finished in sixth place overall with a 54-hole total of 214 while Johnson tied for 10th at 219.

Sacramento State, which entered the final round in first place, finished fifth in the 12-team field. The Hornets shot 286-293-302-881 and could not hold off Washington State which won the event at 873. San Jose State took advantage of a third-round best 286 to place second with a total of 877. UC Davis was third at 879 while Idaho was fourth at 880.

Rappleye's total of 214 tied him for the seventh best 54-hole total in the school's Div. I era and was also his career best as a Hornet. Johnson also recorded a career low with his total of 219.

Senior Nick Neal tied for 21st at 70-73-80-223. Cameron Rappleye tied for 45th at 74-78-77-229. Kyle Candlish completed the lineup at 77-75-79-231 to tie for 49th.

Boise State's Blake Brown and Washington State's Kevin Tucker tied for first place with a total of 208. UC Davis' Austin Graham set the course record with a third-round 65 to move into third place.

Sacramento State will next be in action on Sept. 28-29 at the Purple & Red Invitational hosted by Weber State.
