MEN'S GOLF FINISHES FOURTH AT IRVINE; NORTON PLACES FIFTH

 DOVE CANYON, Calif. — The Sacramento State men’s golf team shot the second best round of the day (301) and finished in fourth place at the Anteater Invitational on Tuesday at the Dove Canyon Country Club. The Hornets finished the 54-hole event with a total of 898 and trailed only UC Irvine (875), UTEP (893) and Cal State Northridge (896). The host Anteaters sealed the team title after shooting 290 in the final round to beat the other nine teams by at least 11 strokes during the day.
Junior Grant Norton led Sacramento State with a 1-over round of 73. Norton shot 76-72-73-221 in the two-day event and placed fifth overall in the field. Freshman Cameron Rappleye tied for 10th overall at 76-73-75-224.
Senior Scott DeBorba was one stroke back of Rappleye and tied for 16th. DeBorba shot 70-79-76-225. Freshman Jake Johnson carded rounds of 74-77-77-228 to tie for 21st and senior Cody Miller shot 78-83-79-240 to place 46th.
Cal Poly’s Geoff Gonzalez was the medalist. Gonzalez was one of only two players to break par during the third round as he recorded a round of 70. He finished the tournament at 69-73-70-212 and was two strokes ahead of UC Irvine’s John Chin.
Sacramento State will next play at the Colorado Stevenson Ranch Invitational in Patterson, Calif., on April 6-7.
