GRANT RAPPLEYE LEADS MEN'S GOLF IN HIS FIRST COLLEGIATE TOURNAMENT

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — Freshman Grant Rappleye shot 71 in the final round to lead Sacramento State at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sunday. Rappleye finished the 54-hole event at 73-74-71-218 to tie for 17th place overall. As a team, the Hornets finished ninth in the 17-team field.
Colorado State pulled away for the team title. The Rams entered the final round tied with UNLV but shot 277 on Sunday compared to 288 by the Rebels who finished second. Washington State, New Mexico and Weber State completed the top five. Sacramento State’s three-round total of 886 was 49 strokes behind CSU.
Individually, Bryce Hanstad of Colorado State was the medalist with rounds of 70-68-67-205. Teammate Riley Arp was second at 67-72-69-208.
For Sacramento State, Grant Norton finished second on the team and tied for 45th overall at 70-75-79-224. Freshman Cameron Rappleye was one stroke back at 75-77-73-225 to tie for 49th. He was followed by Cody Miller who shot 78-73-75-226 to tie for 52nd. Senior Scott DeBorba tied for 71st at 72-81-78-231.
The Hornets will return to action on Sept. 22 for the Giustina Memorial Classic hosted by Oregon State.
