NORTON AND DeBORBA EACH RECORD ROUNDS OF 70 AT UCSB TOURNAMENT

 SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Sacramento State’s Grant Norton and Scott DeBorba each posted a round of 70 at the OGIO-Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at the Rancho San Marcos Golf Course. Norton’s low round led him to a tie for ninth place and a total of 76-71-70-217. DeBorba shot 70-74-77-221 and finished tied for 18th.
As a team, the Hornets shot 297-301-296-894 and finished in seventh place out of 12 teams. Cal State Northridge claimed the top spot at 282-286-287-855 and was followed by Cal Poly and Boise State who tied for second at 875. Host UC Santa Barbara finished forth (887) and Loyola Marymount rounded out the top five at 888.
Boise State’s Troy Merritt tied the tournament record with a total score of 199 to become the medalist. Merritt shot 66 and 68 in the opening two rounds on Monday and tacked on a 65 on Tuesday. His score was eight strokes better than Cal State Northridge’s Nick Delio who finished second at 68-70-69-207.
Cody Miller had the third-best score for the Hornets behind Norton and DeBorba. Miller shot 73-81-75-229 and tied for 46th. Jeremy Harris tied for 55th overall at 78-75-78-231 and Logan Finley tied for 64th at 80-81-74-235.
