CANDLISH LEADS MEN'S GOLF AT BRAVEHEART CLASSIC

 BEAUMONT, Calif. — Sophomore Kyle Candlish shot 228 over three rounds to tie for 11th place and lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team to a seventh-place showing at the Braveheart Classic hosted by UC Riverside on Tuesday.
Candlish led the Hornets with a 77 during the first round on Monday and added scores of 75 and 76 on Tuesday. The Rancho Murieta, Calif., native was four strokes better than fellow sophomore Grant Norton who had the second best score on the team after shooting 79-74-79-232 to tie for 32nd.
Cal Poly won the team title with scores of 311-301-288-900. The Mustangs finished eight strokes ahead of second place UC Riverside (309-295-304). The medalist honor was shared by two UCR golfers. Nick Paez shot 69-72-79-220 and was joined by Spencer Paschall who fired 77-73-70-220.
Along with Candlish and Norton, the Hornets were represented by Cody Miller and Scott DeBorba who both tied for 36th place. Miller shot 80-78-76-234 while DeBorba carded rounds of 82-77-75-234. Freshman logan Finley, who was making his debut for the team this season, tied for 62nd at 71-77-81-239. The Hornets had a different leader in all three rounds. Candlish’s 77 led the first round, Norton shot 74 for the best in the second and DeBorba paced the team in the final round with a 75.
Sacramento State will next be in action at the Fresno State Lexus Classic beginning on March 10.
