DeBORBA AND NORTON LEAD MEN'S GOLF IN FINAL ROUND OF SCU INVITATIONAL

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Junior Scot DeBorba shot 69 and sophomore Grant Norton added a 70 to tie for 21st place and lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team to an eight-place showing at the SCU Invitational on Tuesday.
The Hornets finished the three-round tournament with a team score of 888. That mark placed them 30 strokes behind Portland who won the team title with a total of 858. Host Santa Clara was one stroke back in second place followed by Oklahoma (861), Cal State Northridge (868) and British Columbia (870).
Cal State Northridge’s Nick Delio cruised to the medalist honor with a total of 203. Delio shot 69-67-67 to finish 15 strokes under par and was six strokes better than Santa Clara’s Tim Lynch.
Norton and DeBorba both got off to an inconsistent start on Monday. Norton shot 73-77 while DeBorba fired rounds of 78 and 73. DeBorba’s 69 on Tuesday was tied for the fourth-best score during the final round while Norton’s 70 tied for sixth.
Jeremy Harris had the third-highest finish on the team after shooting 73-75-76-224 to tie for 36th. Kyle Candlish tied for 59th at 71-77-84-232 while Cody Miller tied for 65th with rounds of 78-81-76-235.
The tournament was the final event during the fall season for the Hornets. The team will return to the links in March for the start of its spring campaign.
