DeBORBA AND NORTON LEADS MEN'S GOLF AT BRAVEHEART CLASSIC

 BEAUMONT, Calif. — Freshman Grant Norton shot 71 in the third and final round and sophomore Scott DeBorba tied for 11th overall to lead the Sacramento State men’s golf team at the Braveheart Classic on Tuesday. The Hornets finished the three-round tournament with a combined score of 946 to place 12th. Jacksonville won the team title after shooting 312-295-289-896.
Due to darkness on Monday, the second round was completed on Tuesday morning and then immediately followed with the last round. Norton, who shot 84 and 77 in his first 36 holes, came back to shoot 71 — the lowest round on the team during the tournament. DeBorba was right behind him at 74 and Jeremy Harris added a 77.
Overall, DeBorba shot 78-77-74 to tie for 11th. The showing was his highest finish this season in five tournaments. Norton tied for 21st at 84-77-71-232 and Harris tied for 44th after shooting 82-79-77-238. Cody Miller (82-81-85-248) and Kyle Candlish (83-81-86-250) completed the lineup by tying for 80th and 82nd, respectively.
Jacksonville had the top three finishers on the team. Matt Kleinrock was the medalist with rounds of 78-73-69-220. Russel Know was three strokes behind in second and Duncan Stewart shot 224 to place third.
Sacramento State will next be in action on March 29 at the Cal Poly Invitational.
